| 5 common but dangerous generalizations |
Some people reach conclusions based on personal experiences, while some do so based on hearsay. No matter which form it takes, generalizations are dangerous. They can color ones perception of things and also inhibit them from reaching certain potentials, because when generalization corrupts perception avoidance of the subject of generalization becomes a possibility. Here are the 5 common but dangerous generalizations:
All men are the same
If this were probably true there wouldn’t be a distinction between good and bad, and everything in our world would have been going in a one-sided direction, because whether you believe it or not, most of the managers in our world today are men. Presidents, CEOs name them.
Every indecently dressed girl wants sex
Many men fall within this range. They assume that every sister dressed provocatively wants sex or is a sex-maniac. No, women reason very differently from men and her skimpy dressing may just be her way of attracting attention and admiration.
Fashion or no fashion when you dress indecently you don’t just get the male admiration you seek, you also invite disrespect and rape. Ladies take note.
Men should always give to ladies
I devoted a full article on this titled, “Nigerian Women and the culture of giving in relationships” click here to read. This mindset had caused many sisters plenty of missed marriage opportunities. If a man (or even a woman) is the only person giving in a relationship, it might as well pack up. Because just like respect, love is reciprocal & giving is a major way of demonstrating love.
When I ask, I should receive
I have met a whole lot of people who fall within this category. They believe people should always oblige their requests. They become visibly angry angry complain bitterly to anybody who cares to listen how “wicked some people can be.”
Even though it is expected that humans help each other at times of need, unless you gave something to anybody to keep on your behalf, it amounts to foolishness to bear grudges against such a person if they fail to meet your “Giving” expectations. You are responsible for you, so take charge of your life.
There are no good girls anymore
A young man (He was not the first) told me this during a counseling session. His problem was,
“He has been a consistent PLAYER for a long time, but this time he happened to have scored a ‘Goal’ and now the girl’s family want a PERMANENT TRANSFER for their daughter with the CLUB (The guy’s family) which the guy plays from. Actually he was drunk when he released the shot that led to the goal, and he believed the girl tricked him into firing the shot. So he propounded the theory, ‘There are no good girls anymore’.”
Like I told him, you are the bad guy if you also believe no good girls exist anymore.
Good girls are everywhere, but you only bump into the bad ones, because you desired and chose the ones who offer what you want, while you overlooked the sensible ones. So quit blaming every girl and work on your mind.
Have a nice day.
