3 good phrases Nigerians made bad

Written by Sopuruchukwu Egbodo @SopuruEgbodo

These phrases are originally supposed to generate trust when used, but Nigerians just like is obtainable in many things Nigeria, have turned them into words that portray uncertainties. Here they are.

WE'LL GET BACK TO YOU
This phrase is usually heard among employers of labour and dreaded by employees. As it sounds this was supposed to mean, "We'll call to notify you of your appointment or not", but employers of labour in Nigeria (And maybe some other places too) have employed that as a "Tool" to say, "Not qualified". When they tell you, “We’ll call you back", they ain’t calling you nothing. They just diplomatically told you, you aren’t good enough.

HOPEFULLY I WILL...
Another phrase that I have had to deal with personally a lot of time, and the experiences have not been palatable at all! I had contacted a lot of people who used the phrase several times and like I tell those who try to use the phrase on me, "I fear it a lot." It is a Nigerians polite way of saying,"Please permit me to disappoint you".

BY GOD'S GRACE
Since God is attached to this phrase, it was supposed to be used with sincerity in mind, but this probably is the most used, and most abused phrase among Nigerians; no matter their religious orientation or ethnicity. That’s just the word an average Nigerian uses to “Dodge” saying an outright NO to requests.
